No. 2 seed Dominika Cibulkova had an even easier time, against Nurai Llagostera Vives, and won 61 61.
No. 5 seed Sorana Cirstea was the highest seed that was ousted, as the Romanian fell to Gisela Dulko 63 46 76(5).
"I'm very satisfied with the way I was playing in the tie-break," Dulko said. "My leg hurt a bit but hopefully I'll be fit tomorrow."
No. 6 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was demolished by compatriot Maria Kirilenko, 62 63.
No. 7 seed Carla Suarez Navarro was luckier, as she cruised through after beating wildcard Ellen Allgurin 61 64.
No. 8 seed Iveta Benesova suffered the same fate as the No. 5 and 6 seeds, as she lost to Alla Kudryavtseva, 62 64.
