The U.S Open starts on Monday; first on main court is comeback mother

The bottom half of the draw of the last Grand Slam of the year will take off on Day 1, as four seeds will headline the day, while another seeded favorite will begin the night session play.

First up is wildcard Kim Clijsters, who as a mother, came back from a two-year retirement, will play Viktoriya Kutuzova in her first Grand Slam since coming back. This will be the pair's first meeting.

Next up will be defending champion and No. 2 seed Serena Williams, who will face another wildcard, Alexa Glatch. Williams is leading 1-0 in head-to-head results.

Other day matched will include America's Meghann Shaughnessy, who takes the next step in her comeback from knee injury, against No. 22 seed Daniela Hantuchova, No. 7 seed Vera Zvonareva, who plays Spanish doubles star Nuria Llagostera Vives on the Grandstand, and new No. 10 seed Flavia Pennetta, who faces Edina Gallovits of Romania on the same court.

In the night session on Arthur Ashe Stadium, No. 3 seed Venus Williams will begin her run against Vera Dushevina. Williams leads 2-0 in the head-to-head series.
