Mauresmo wins to advance to quarters on Day 3 in New haven

Amelie Mauresmo and Anna Chakvetadze were the first to enter the quartefinals in New Haven on Tuesday, while all the other seeds in action advanced to the second round.

No. 8 seed Mauresmo was not at all challenged by opponent Alona Bondarenko, as the Frenchwoman easily went through after a 61 61 win.

Chakvetadze had to go to three sets against Sybille Bammer, but was able to get revenge from her Cincinnati loss, winning with a score of 46 64 75.

The other seeded winner of the day were No. 2 seed Caroline Wozniacki, who double bageled lucky loser Edina Gallovits; No. 3 seed Flavia Pennetta, ousted qualifier Ioana Raluca Olaru, 61 62; No. 6 seed Mariona Bartoli, who bested Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, 46 63 61; and No. 9 seed Samantha Stosur, who battled against Alize Cornet to win with a score of 67(8) 62 64.
