Sharapova comes back from first set loss to beat Azarenka on Day 3 in L.A

Ranked ans seeded No. 1, Dinara Safina made an impressive win over Daniela Hantuchova on Wednesday, while Maria Sharapova rallied from a set down to upset No. 3 seed Victoria Azarenka to advance to the third round in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

Safina made good progress in her match against Hantuchova, and proved to be a good competitor, winning with a score of 62 64.

"It was a good match for my first match back here in America. I didn't do anything spectacular, but I was solid," Safina said. "Daniela is a dangerous player. I knew what I had to do. I had to be aggressive - there's no other way."

Sharapova was again under the night lights on Day 3. Losing the first set in a tiebreak, the Russian put her game together and won the next two set with ease. The final score was 67(4) 64 62.

"I had so many chances to win the first set, but I was able to win the second set and play a solid third," Sharapova said. "I knew going into this match I was going to have to dig deep and hang tough to stay in there. I learned a great deal, and I've given myself another chance to play tomorrow. I have a lot of support here in Los Angeles and it feels like home."

"Maria is a great player," a gracious Azarenka commented. "She still has her game. It doesn't matter that she was out for almost a year."
