Highest seed in action on Day 1 advances; former champion Loit ousted

On the first day of the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL Presented by HSBC, the highest seed playing was No. 4 seed Iveta Benesova, and she won her first round match in straight sets, while Emilie Loit didn't have as much luck in her match.

Benesova, a champion here in 2004, easily demolished Olga Savchuk, 62 60, while Loit, the champion here in 2007, was beaten by Klara Zakopalova, 46 64 75.

The other two seeds in action were No. 7 seed Tathiana Garbin, who rallied back from a break down in the third set to win to Jill Craybas, 76(4) 46 63; and No. 6 seed Lucie Safarova, who was ousted by Roberta Vinci, 64 64.
